Single Coat Hook
Skill focus: upsetting (optional), bending, flattening
Difficulty: Easy–Medium
Time: 60–120 mins
Tools
Forge, anvil, hammer, tongs, punch/drill (later), vise, file
Materials
Mild steel flat bar: 25 x 6 mm, 200–250 mm
(Optional) 2 screws for mounting
Steps
Create mounting plate: Heat one end (50–60 mm). Flatten slightly wider to make a plate.
Square and clean edges on the plate.
Mark hole positions (2 holes).
Punch holes hot (if you have a punch) or drill cold later.
Form the hook: Heat the other end and bend into a smooth hook shape on the horn.
Add a slight return at the tip so coats don’t slide off.
Final alignment: Ensure hook sits proud and plate is flat.
