Tools

Forge, anvil, hammer, tongs, vise, wire brush

Materials

  • Mild steel round bar: 10–12 mm, 900–1100 mm long

Steps

  1. Forge the tip: Heat 100–150 mm and draw out to a long taper (poker point).

  2. Dress with light planishing blows to keep it straight.

  3. Create handle section: Heat a 200–250 mm section near the other end.

  4. Twist the handle (optional): Clamp in vise and twist 180–360°.

  5. Form a loop end: Heat the very end and curl a hanging loop.

  6. Straighten the shaft: Roll on the anvil face and correct bends hot.
